A Quick Guide to Remembering Dreams

Cultivate a Practice for Remembering Dreams

Set an intention and develop a practice.

Set an intention each night before falling asleep to remember your dreams. It becomes a habit the more nights you perform this ritual. Ask your guides/angels (out loud) to help you remember them.

Before moving or opening your eyes, make sure the dream is firmly embedded in your memory before moving to record or document the dream. If it is not, once you move the memory slips away easily.

My Go-To Methods for Documenting Dreams

Keep your phone or paper and pen within reach.

  • Phone App: If you sleep with your phone within reach you can use your phone to record the dream once the memory is locked in. You can use whatever recording app you have on your phone or get a free transcribing app. I use TurboScribe and have it on my front screen so I can push 2 buttons to easily record.

  • Pen & Paper: If you prefer not to have your phone within reach, a pen and paper will work.

Set an alarm.

Set your alarm for 60 minutes earlier than you usually wake. Turn off your alarm with the least bit of movement possible. Lay quietly without opening your eyes and try to go into that semi-meditative state and see if you can grab the thread of the dream. You may lay there for several minutes and then some memory floats by. With practice you can learn to expand the memory.

Drink water before bed.

Drink a glass of water before bed and wake naturally to capture a dream. Hopefully you have some time to grab the memory of the dream and record it before you need to get up and use the bathroom.
